About Wii Sports
Wii Sports is one of the games available for Nintendo's Wii interactive game system. Rated "E" for "Everyone," it has become a popular multi-generational game and a social phenomenon- History: Wii Sports was first released in 2006 as a game bundled with Nintendo's Wii console. It continues to be included as a "starter" game with the system
- Features: Wii Sports simulates five different sport experiences: baseball, bowling, boxing, golf and tennis. A Training Mode and Fitness Test also are available. Players interact fairly intuitively with the game using wireless Wii remotes. The game can be customized for each player by selecting their play style (left or right-handed for each sport), and it can track their skill level
- Equipment: Nintendo's Wii game system is required equipment, and the Wii Sports disc arrives with it. Wii games are displayed on a television, which is not included with the system. One Wii Remote and one Wii Nunchuck also are bundled with the system. Additional remotes and Nunchucks can be purchased separately to support multiple players. Accessories such as plastic tennis racket, golf club and baseball bat, as well as a pair of Wii boxing gloves, also can be purchased as desired to enhance the playing experience
- Instructions: Turn on power and insert the Wii Sports disc into the Wii console to start the game. Follow instructions on screen, pressing "A" to advance or "B" to go back to a previous screen. Using the Wii remote, point the cursor to select the Disc Channel on the Wii Menu and select "Play" on the Channel Preview screen. After players determine their play style and select a "Mii" animated character to represent them onscreen, then they choose a game to play or opt for training mode. Individuals may play alone or they may compete against each other
- Once a sport has been selected, game play is intuitive. In the baseball game, a player swings the remote like a baseball bat while, if two are playing, another uses the remote to control pitches. To play tennis, up to four players wield remotes as they would a tennis racket. To bowl, players raise and lower the remote while pressing buttons to release the virtual ball. To golf, hold the remote with two hands and swing like a golf club. Boxing uses the Nunchuck attached to the remote to punch, block and dodge
- When game play is done, press the "Home" button on the remote to return to the Home Menu. Press the "Power" button to turn off power system
- Warnings: The game's instruction manual warns that playing video games can cause repetitive motion injuries and eyestrain. Because Wii Sports players do repeat various hand, wrist and arm movements as they use the remote to simulate game play, it is important to take frequent breaks and ensure that any children playing do so as well
